Why are we americans not protesting the bleep out of our govt & demanding they do things that make sense?

& serve our needs? im a libertarian, this is not an attack on liberals or conservatives. but i think its plain to see that our govt (past & present) is doing things irrespective of our actual needs or best interest. so why are we so passive about it?
