I cant look up my phone on my Sony Vaio laptop? HELP?

ihave a sumsung phone and i still have pics on there that i want to save on my computer. i tried looking at youtube videos but its not working,..i put my phone pc connection to "USB Mass Storage" and i hooked the usb cable thats attached to the phone to my laptop..its make the bleep noise like it usually does when i hook up any other devices to it but it dont bring up my phone window so i view and save files..i tried looking in all my computer files but i cant find it my phone files....any help of advice? tanks in advance
